Questo è il primo dei 5 libri della saga Eroi dell'Olimpo, questo libro ha ricevuto recensioni contrastanti ma nonostante questo ha ricevuto il premio Barnes & Noble come miglior libro nel 2010 però voglio ricordare che in Italia il libro è uscito solamente nel 2013. Il libro è in terza persona dove si passa dal punto di vista di: Piper,Jason,Leo.Al contrario della saga di Percy Jackson nonostante i fatti si svolgano nello stesso mondo.
Il libro comincia con un ragazzo Jason Grace che si risveglia all'interno di uno scuolabus non ricordando nulla del suo passato,si trova seduto accanto a una bellissima ragazza di nome Piper Mclean proveniente da una famiglia cherokee da parte del nonno paterno, e accanto a Leo Valdez che dice di essere il suo migliore amico. Insieme stanno facendo una gita con la scuola della natura, una scuola per ragazzi problematici, per esempio Piper ha chiesto se poteva guidare una Bmw e il venditore ha acconsentito nonostante tutti pensano che l' abbia rubata. invece quando arrivarono al Grand Canyon destinazione della loro meta dei venti li assalirono però scamparono anche grazie al loro coach Edge il quale i venti lo rapirono, intanto Annabeth Chase sta cercando il suo fidanzato scomparso dal campo mezzosangue, successivamente Piper,Leo e Jason scopriranno che sono semidei Greci.(...).
A parer mio è un' ottimo libro di un'ottima saga quindi se la volete leggere io ve la consiglio però dal primo
