Insegnante di Inglese alle scuole medie riceve nel 2002 il Master Teacher award
in Italia però diventerà notò solamente nel 2010 quando la casa editrice Mondadori pubblicherà Percy Jackson e il ladro di fulmini primo di una serie che ha affascinato milioni di lettori sia ragazzi che adulti. Invece nel 2012 uscirà in Italia la piramide rossa primo libro della saga The Kane crhonacles seguito poi da altri 2 romanzi della stessa saga. Poi nel 2013 uscirà Eroi dell'Olimpo che si concluderà nel 2015 con il sangue dell' Olimpo. Ivece molto più recente è la saga Magnus Chase e gli dei di Asgard, il quale primo libro la spada del guerriero è uscito nel 2015, il secondo invece è uscito verso la fine del 2016. Attualmente Rick Riordan vive a Boston sposato e con 2 figli.
